Sailing the Whitsundays

On our way up to Airlie Beach to sail the Whitsundays, we stopped in the awesome town of Bundaberg. It was pretty much amazing.

Okay, okay, I lie.

But here are a few pics of the store of the distillery. They wanted $25 and um, hi, I is broke. Not like, "OMG, I only have $7,691,237,126,323 in my bank account" broke. But more like, "I have $20 to my name to last me the rest of this trip" broke.

Damn.

As we drove up the coast, we went through a very small town called Gin Gin. I was driving so Ross was taking in the sights. One of them being a Sunday Roast. A $7 Sunday Roast.

Score. We ate like kings.

We drove on to a small town outside of Rockhampton called Yeppon. We had planned to camp in or near the National Park there, but quickly found out it was, um, really small there.

Jerks.

We found a place to park overlooking to the ocean with all the facilities you could ever need. We setup our "camping site" and ate our delicious leftover roast. The way we got to start doing things.

We went to bed in the blazing heat -- windows up -- and I woke up stating, loudly:

"I'm so miserable."

So. I got up, walked around the campsite. Topless.

Yes. Cuz that's a good idea in the middle of nowhere. I'm surprised I didn't die.

It was all good. We just needed some air circulating in the car.

We got up in the AM where we took a shower underneath a beach shower out in the open. Yes. I was wearing a bathingsuit this time around.

Foss actually found a frog just chillin in the toilet. Shouldn't that prove to you how hot it really was?

We ate breakfast, saw another couple in the same situation as us. White station wagon. Pillows for curtains. Showering under the beach showerhead. It was like looking in the mirror. Bizarre.

Off we went to Airlie Beach. We drove about 500kms -- so we were a bit tired once we got there.

We went from travel agent to travel agent trying to find the best standby rates -- but there weren't really any amazing deals. Plus it was school holidays and Easter, so everyone and their mom had booked something. We were SOL.

We talked to a travel agent, Tina, who told us about a 12-person sailing trip that sounded like the best idea. Wasn't cheap, but we knew it'd be worth it -- we'd make it worth it.

We walked down to Magnum's - a large hostel - where we got ourselves a beer. We declared ourselves happy with our decision and went off to buy last minute things for a trip going out the next day. We bought some white goon (because they don't allow red on the boat) and got some pizza that was having quite the special. And it wasn't half bad. Pizza here sucks in OZ, so it was exciting to get something decent.

However, I ate it like a champ. Fatty. I'd say I'll go on a diet while I'm here, but they ain't gonna happen. Boo.

We walked around the backpacker hostels to figure out where we could put our cold food while we were gone -- Koala's hostel turned out to be the pick.

We setup camp along with 707623123 other van backpackers. That seemed a bit silly, but it was a place to sleep.

And yes. It was just as hot as the night before. But we learned to open the windows this time. So it helped a little bit.

In the morning, we got up nice and early, took another shower in a beach shower and off we went to meet our new best friends.

They sucked.

The whole trip they were as quiet as could be and no one drank anything. We were the only ones enjoying ourselves.

It was awesome to sail the Whitsundays, saw some amazing sights and had an effin blast with Foss. We were the life of the party, no doubt.

Our skipper and his 1 other crew member were both 21. We felt like we put our hands in the lives of two young people. It was a bit frightening. And his crew member, Jenny, was extremely seasick the whole time. It was sad.

Here are a few pics of what we experienced on our sailing trip.

And yes. It was worth it.
